Jean-Luc Mader is a respected fourth-generation vigneron in Hunawihr, in the heart of Alsace — a village renowned for some of the greatest Gewürztraminer vineyards in the world. His wines are textbook expressions of Alsatian winemaking: aromatic, full-bodied, and remarkably food-friendly.
Gewürztraminer at its finest is an extraordinary experience: deep gold in colour with an almost impossibly perfumed nose of lychee, rose petal, ginger spice, and candied orange zest. The palate is opulent and richly textured, with a characteristic slight sweetness balanced by a spicy, refreshing finish. The quintessential Alsace pairing: foie gras, munster cheese, Alsatian tarte flambée, or any mildly spiced Asian dish.

Jean-Luc Mader
When any of the glossy wine magazines run an article on Alsace, more often than not the article is accompanied by a photograph of the 15th century church of Hunawihr. It is in this beautiful village that Jean Luc and Anne Mader have their domaine. The Mader's are high quality - small quantity wine producers, and the Rieslings here are produced in the dry style, with potential to age for 5 years or more. Their Gewurtztraminer is considered a true Alsatian classic, intense but not too sweet. All vineyard work is carried out by hand and since 2005 their son Jerome is running the estate having gained a Diploma in Oenology. Since returning to the family estate Jerome has also converted all their vineyards to bio-dynamic viticulture.
