Viognier is one of the world's most seductive white grape varieties — a grape of extraordinary aromatic power and richness that produces wines of apricot, white peach, ginger, jasmine and honeysuckle perfume with a full-bodied, almost oily texture. Its heartland is the northern Rhone Valley, where Condrieu — produced from a tiny 200-hectare appellation — is one of the rarest and most celebrated white wines in the world: exotic, opulent and extraordinary. Viognier is also permitted in Cote-Rotie, where a small proportion co-fermented with Syrah adds aromatic complexity.
