German Wine

Germany's cool riverside slopes produce Riesling of unmatched precision — thrillingly alive with tension between acidity, mineral complexity and delicate sweetness — alongside outstanding Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) that rivals Burgundy at its best. Our range is built around Andreas Bender, 'the Maverick of the Mosel', who farms 35 hectares across the Pfalz and Mosel using traditional, handcrafted methods.

Germany produces some of the world's most rewarding wines — a country where Riesling reaches its greatest expression on steep slate slopes above dramatic river valleys. The Mosel produces Riesling wines of haunting delicacy, low alcohol and extraordinary aging potential. The Rheingau, Pfalz and Nahe each produce Riesling in distinct styles. Germany also produces excellent Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir), particularly from Baden and the Ahr. At Wines Direct we stock German wine with genuine enthusiasm — particularly dry Riesling and Spatburgunder.
