Paddy Borthwick farms the Dakins Road vineyard in the Wairarapa, the often-overlooked wine region just north of Wellington that produces some of New Zealand's most interesting whites. This Sauvignon Blanc bears his hallmark: more textured and restrained than the typical Marlborough style, with a focus on the vineyard rather than the variety's more showy characteristics.
Fresh citrus and white stone fruit on the nose, moving to a palate with genuine weight and a clean, dry finish. A wine that rewards those willing to look beyond the famous names.

Paddy Borthwick
Paddy Borthwick is a regular visitor to Ireland, and a firm favourite with Wines Direct customers and staff for two reasons: his wines are excellent, and he is a charming,easy-going guy who is great company. Paddy is a maverick whose experience in the vineyards of France and Switzerland has made him into one of New Zealand's most talented winemakers. His fantastic 25 ha estate is located in Martinborough (Wairarapa),the fine food capital of New Zealand, and it fits perfectly in this region of fantastic flavour. Like all the best winemakers, he makes wine instinctively and has the confidence to takerisks where others hedge their bets. With the 2011 harvest, for example, which followed acooler and wetter than usual summer, it was this confidence and experience which allowed him to wait a bit longer than other growers in the area, let the rains pass, and pick beautiful, ripe, flavoursome grapes.
