Thibault Julien
Located in Saint-Bauzille-de-la-Sylve, in the heart of the Hérault Valley, between two Languedoc appellations, Grés de Montpellier and Terrasses du Larzac. Mas de Janiny is a family estate founded in 1989 by the brothers Thierry and Pascal Julien. From the very beginning, the estate has been committed to organic farming, with an objective that has remained unchanged: producing quality wines, offering accessible products, and preserving our environment. Deeply committed to biodiversity and soil quality, we combine traditional techniques with innovation, notably through agropastoralism and polyculture. Most of our cuvées follow a philosophy that has remained unchanged since our beginnings. Despite the evolving climate context, we remain dedicated to producing fresh, fruity and highly enjoyable wines. We also strive for precise control of fine, balanced tannins, highlighting the elegance of our wines. Our vineyard covers 130 hectares, mainly composed of clay-limestone soils, surrounded by Mediterranean garrigue and benefiting from a typical Mediterranean climate. Recently, we welcomed 150 Merino d’Arles sheep, a breed renowned for the exceptional quality of its wool. Throughout the winter, they graze freely in our vineyards. This practice allows us to naturally fertilise the soil, preserve biodiversity, and reduce tractor use, helping prevent soil compaction and degradation. The wool collected will then be locally valorised by Atelier Tuffery, a historic clothing workshop based in Florac in the Cévennes, which will transform this noble material into sustainable, locally produced jeans. Among our emblematic cuvées, “Le Temps des Gitans” has a rather original story. In 2006, Thierry, a fan of Gypsy swing music, was contacted to supply wine for a festival at the Saint-Ouen flea market in Paris. Together with a journalist friend, he decided to create a wine with an unconventional concept: a white bottle, a fluorescent back label, and an almost oversized front label. The famous French cartoonist Cabu agreed to design the label, and the wine was named “Le Temps des Gitans.” The selected cuvée is a fruity, fresh and easy-drinking wine, light, smooth and very enjoyable. Originally, the wine was meant to exist only for that one night, just for the duration of the celebration. However, the concept quickly became popular, first in France and Japan, and later in other countries as well. A festive, convivial and easy-to-drink wine, Le Temps des Gitans has remained a reliable favourite thanks to its originality, and continues to enjoy growing success among our customers.
