Muscat is one of the oldest and most widely planted grape families in the world, encompassing numerous related varieties including Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains, Muscat of Alexandria and Muscat Ottonel, grown across Europe, the Mediterranean and beyond. Muscat is instantly recognisable for its intensely floral, grapey aroma, often described as tasting exactly like fresh table grapes, with notes of orange blossom, peach and honey. This aromatic intensity makes Muscat incredibly versatile, used to produce everything from light, lightly sparkling sweet wines such as Moscato d'Asti, to fortified dessert wines like Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise and Rutherglen Muscat, as well as occasional dry, aromatic table wines.
