Château Mac Carthy is a family estate in Saint-Estephe, the most northerly of the great Medoc communes and famous for producing wines of power, structure, and longevity. Mac Carthy is a well-regarded Cru Bourgeois — one of the satellites of the appellation that consistently over-delivers, offering genuine Saint-Estephe character at a fraction of the price of its more famous neighbours.

Deep garnet with a classic Saint-Estephe nose: blackcurrant, cedar, earth, and a firm, structured backbone that is the hallmark of the appellation. Full-bodied with firm tannins and good concentration — a wine built for the table and for the cellar. Excellent with roast lamb, beef, or game, and at its best with 5–10 years’ further bottle age.

Henri Duboscq

Château Haut Marbuzet is now a classic at Wines Direct. Our relationship with the Dubosq family goes back manyyears. The property was purchased in 1952 by Hervé Dubosq and is now managed by his son, Henri. Henri Dubosq's wines are rich and voluptuous to drink young with plenty of concentrated fruit and chocolatey-vanilla aromas, yet also age beautifully. Château Haut Marbuzet produces one of the most pleasurable wines in the Médoc. It is classified as a Cru Bourgeois, however, its wines regularly overshadow those of its celebrity Grand Cru Classé neighbours. The estate is 40 acres located about 2 kilometres north of Cos d'Estournel in the tiny village of Marbuzet in St-Estéphe. Its vineyards face the Gironde estuary, and vines are planted on gravel-rich soil.
