Lavières is always defined by floral elegance and limestone cut, and the 2019 vintage delivers both with unusual density. Nose: redcurrant, wild strawberry, cranberry, and cherry stone at the core. Beneath that, crushed violet, lilac, iron filings, and a chalk-dust minerality that feels almost salty. Zero flashy oak.
Palate: silky entry, immediately tightened by fine, vertical tannins and slicing acidity. Tart red berries over crushed rock. Mid-palate shows rose petal, pomegranate skin, crushed herbs and mineral sapidity. Finish is tensile, floral, and saline. Precision over power. Beauty with backbone.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles is one of the Côte de Beaune's most treasured estates. The de Nicolay family have farmed this land since 1834, and today siblings Claude and François de Nicolay run a domaine that Burgundy specialists consistently describe as among the finest in the entire Côte d'Or. Claude took over in 1988 and progressively converted to biodynamic viticulture — Demeter certified since 2011 — adopting a strict no-additions philosophy: no tartaric acid, no commercial yeasts, no fining. Whole-cluster fermentation and an almost complete rejection of new oak allow the terroir to lead. Jancis Robinson has reviewed the domaine's wines on multiple occasions, and critics across the board admire the wines' classical elegance, mineral precision and capacity to age with grace.

Claude Nicolay
Claude Nicolay & her brother, François, are the current generation in a family estate that was founded in 1834. They have small plots totalling 34 acres dotted throughout some of Burgundy’s biggest names including; Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. Claude and François have not rested on the prestigiousfamily name (they are related to the Chandon family of Moët& Chandon in Champagne). Since 2001 they have been on ajourney towards fully biodynamic viticulture, a reaction towhat they felt was the destruction of vineyards in Burgundy through profuse spraying with chemical pesticides and herbicides. What you get here is not just a Chardonnay from the exalted Grand Cru slopes of Corton-Le Charlemagne, but a pure andhonest expression of time and place. Gently nurtured inseven-year-old barrels after a slow fermentation, it displays power and elegance from early on, developing richness and complexity as it matures in bottle.
