This red wine consists of fresh aromas of crushed dark berries and pepper—intriguing flavours of violet, blackberry, and roasted herbs, leading to a robust finish. This is the original blend of Château la Baronne, as started by Jean Lignéres` parents. It is dominated by their beloved old vine Carignan, which they consider `the blood of the region`. The vineyards are surrounded by herbs, trees, bushes and flowers, all of which contribute to the aromatic expression of this wine — natural yeast, very low sulphites, ageing in neutral terracotta and sandstone amphorae.

When you visit Chateau la Baronne, you begin to understand precisely what goes into producing the Lignères family’s exceptional wines. We journeyed through the vineyards to experience the look, feel and smell of the terroir of the AlaricMountain. The vines are well-tended, happy, healthy, and full of beautiful biodiversity. The winery — a fantastic place of experimentation, including Jean’s custom-designed egg-shaped clay vessels for vinification and storage. The last stop on the tour is the tasting room where it all starts to make sense. One can taste the respect of land and all living things, meticulous attention to detail, and the loving care in each wine produced by the Lignères family.
