2020 is the one people will be kicking themselves over in ten years when they realise how much pedigree they could have had for so little money. Hot vintage, yes — but Mitjavile handles heat better than almost anyone in Bordeaux. Domaine de Cambes 2020 is sleek, ripe, and brilliantly balanced, with that slow-building depth that tells you the old vines were completely unbothered.
The 2020 erupts with ripe blackberry, black plum, blueberry compote, and spiced damson, wrapped in warm tobacco, cocoa, and that unmistakable roasted-sweet Mitjavile signature. There's a darker, more brooding tone than 2018 or 2019 — a sense of depth that hints at the power underneath the polish.
On the palate it's rich but never heavy, carrying Mitjavile's trademark silkiness. Waves of black fruit — cassis, plum, mulberry — glide over fine, ripe tannins. There's impressive freshness for the vintage too, giving the wine shape and lift. Mid-palate you get mocha, cedar, sweet spice, and a touch of graphite, all unfolding with calm, unhurried confidence.
The finish is long, warming, and savoury-sweet, reinforcing just how far this wine sits above its appellation.
Robert Parker: 90 Points — Robert Parker's Wine Advocate noted its "ripe, supple fruit and admirable balance," calling it one of the vintage's standout Bordeaux AOCs.
Vinous praised the "silky texture, purity and effortless charm," emphasising how clearly the Mitjavile DNA shows in 2020.
This is the most structured and ageworthy of the 2018–2020 trilogy.
Drink 2025–2038.
Critics & Recognition
Domaine de Cambes features on the wine list of the Grand Hôtel Stockholm alongside multiple vintages — a fitting home for Mitjavile's second wine from one of Bordeaux's most individual winemaking families.

Francois Mitjavile
Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf produces just over 2,000 cases a year from it's tiny 5.7-hectares, which is situated on a steep slope on the edge of a limestone plateau. The grapes are harvested by hand and are fermented in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Le Tertre Rôteboeuf is then aged in oak barrels for 18 months. Yields are kept very low and consequently this is one of the most concentrated wines to be found in Bordeaux. One very important feature of La Tertre Rôteboeuf is that the harvest is very late, giving an almost raisin-like ripeness to the wine. This is because the soil is cold and ideally suited to Merlot. Like all the best winemakers, Francois is prepared to risk rain, and thereby the potential destruction of his crop, to achieve the result he wants. His views are summed up thus: “Let us see, what soil and weather have cooked together this year, and get the best possible out of it. The miracle comes first of all from Mother Nature”.
