The 2021 Roc de Cambes opens with a cooler, more aromatic profile: red and black cherry, wild raspberry, violets, cedar shavings, and a gentle earthy sweetness that feels almost Burgundian in its lift. It’s less brooding than the 2019 or 2020, but it compensates with striking clarity.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied but beautifully shaped — silky fruit, bright acidity, and ultra-fine tannins that glide rather than grip. Flavours of red plum, blackcurrant, crushed stone, and subtle spice weave together with impressive precision. There’s a savoury thread through the finish — a graphite, tobacco, almost saline note — that gives the wine quiet authority.
