Domaine Horgelus
Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc
Cotes de Gascogne IGP, South West France, France
Food Pairing
A refreshing and fun white wine that shows the sunnier side of Sauvignon Blanc. In typical Horgelus style it’s full of flavour and jumps from the glass. Citrussy, tropical and light, it’s great value too.

In 2004 Yoan Le Menn, at the tender age of 16 was individual French Fly Fishing Champion for the first time. He subsequently went on to capture the trophy in 2005 and 2006. This competitive aspect of his character and the search for excellence that goes with it made him stand out on a visit from Wines Direct.
Domaine Horgelus was created in 1978 by Yoan's father, Joseph Le Menn. Breton by origin, he was attracted by the charm of the South West, its gastronomy and its art of living. The domaine is located on a sunny hillside in Gascony, an area renowned primarily for the production of Armagnac, but which is slowly but surely gaining a reputation for excellent red and white wines.
This progression started in the 1980's, thanks, largely, to producers like the Le Menn family, who strive to make wines with freshness and ripe fruit flavours as their most important features. Yoan Le Menn is of the new generation of oenologues who combine modernity with tradition. He is dedicated to preserving the aroma of the wines by preventing any form of oxidation during vinification.
For this reason, grapes are harvested early in the morning, from 3 am 'til 11, ensuring no freshness is lost in the heat of the midday sun. These lovely fresh fruit flavours are the essence of Domaine Horgelus.
"An exercise in freshness and zing, this combination of Colombard and Sauvignon Blanc is all green gosseberries and blackcurrant leaf. In fact, it's a wine that Paddy used to try to raise the standard of house wines in Irish restaurants. Cracking value and more grown-up than a lot of New Zealand Sauvignons."
"Gorgeous 11.5% Gascon, mostly Colombard with a splash of Sauvignon bursting with light, lively, floral apple and white peach stashed fruit plus a zesty tongue-tingling finish."
"Appealing lemon, apple, pear, grassy, smoky musky scents; soft, juicy clean fruit, creamy palate; lemon finish."
Domaine Horgelus
It is on the sunny hills of Gascony, in Montreal of the Gers in the heart of the South-West, that the Le Menn family gave birth to Domaine Horgelus. The estate now covers 66 hectares of vineyards located around the winery.
