When it comes to winemaking, you won’t find anyone more serious than Jo. The use of chemical fungicides and other such methods is totally prohibited; fertilisation is with biodynamic compost, and the vineyards are ploughed to reduce competition from weeds. This is not easy work. It would be much easier to spray and forget like many others do but Jo is determined to make the best Muscadet possible with as little “interference” as possible.
Working on the beautiful lands surrounding La Haie-Fouassiere in Sevre-et-Maine, Jo is one of Muscadet’s great winemakers. Using Melon de Bourgogne a variety from the Nantes region, and different types of terroir, he creates his admirable range of wines, ranging from the fruity to the most complex.
