Bordeaux is the world's most famous wine region — an estuary city on France's Atlantic coast surrounded by some of the most celebrated vineyards on earth. The Left Bank — the Médoc and Graves — is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines of great structure and longevity: Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Mouton Rothschild. The Right Bank — Saint-Émilion and Pomerol — is Merlot country, producing richer, more immediately approachable wines: Pétrus, Cheval Blanc, Ausone. Dry white Bordeaux — particularly from Pessac-Léognan — is one of France's most underrated whites. And Sauternes produces honeyed, botrytised wines from Sémillon that can age for generations. At Wines Direct we stock Bordeaux across the full range — from everyday Bordeaux Supérieur to respected Cru Bourgeois and Classified Growths.
