Clos des Jacobins is one of Saint-Émilion's most historic Grand Cru Classé estates, with records dating to the 17th century when Jacobin monks first cultivated these vines on the clay-limestone plateau. Today the estate produces a wine of elegance and precision: Merlot-dominant with Cabernet Franc adding structure and aromatic lift.
The nose is beautifully complex — red and dark fruit, tobacco leaf, and earthy minerality — while the palate shows fine-grained tannins and a lovely, concentrated finish.
Scoring 94 points from James Suckling and 93 points from Vinous for the 2018 vintage — "one of the best wines the estate has produced" — Clos des Jacobins is one of Saint-Émilion's most consistent and underappreciated Grand Crus. Drink now with duck confit or roast lamb, or cellar for 8–10 years.

Thibault Decoster
Thibault Decoster had a dream to become a wine producer. He asked the (Irish) owners of Chateau de Fieuzal at Leognan, if they would teach him about winemaking. He spent three years there before looking for his own property. He had fallen in love with St. Emilion, and it was here he chose to fulfill his dream, and, with the help of his father, he bought Chateau La Commanderie in 2004. While he worked hands on during his apprenticeship, he of course realised he would need a top winemaker to produce a wine of the quality of this estate. He employs the stellar Hubert de Bouard as his consultant, who also makes La Fleur de Bouard, and the Grand Cru Classé, Angelus. Mr. Decoster believes the most important thing to learn as a vigneron is humility as you work with, and are so dependent on, nature. Every day there is something new to learn, and he believes he may truly be a vigneron by the end of his days.
