Piceno DOP refers to wines from the Rosso Piceno appellation in Italy's Marche region, on the Adriatic coast. Made primarily from a blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese, Rosso Piceno wines are medium to full-bodied reds with ripe dark fruit, soft tannins, and a savoury, slightly rustic character that reflects the Marche's traditional winemaking style.
A 'Superiore' designation exists for wines from a smaller, higher-quality zone with stricter production rules, often producing more concentrated and age-worthy examples. Rosso Piceno represents one of the Marche's most widely produced and approachable red wine styles, offering excellent everyday drinking alongside more serious bottlings.
