Fleurie AOC

Fleurie is the most celebrated and romantic of Beaujolais' ten crus — a hillside appellation producing wines of extraordinary charm, floral perfume and silky elegance from Gamay grown on the pink granite soils of the Haut-Beaujolais, wines that embody everything that makes great Beaujolais such a pleasure to drink. Wines Direct sources Fleurie from quality-focused independent producers who demonstrate what this iconic French appellation can truly achieve.

Fleurie is one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, the highest classification within the Beaujolais region of France, and is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and aromatic of the ten. Made entirely from the Gamay grape, Fleurie is known for its perfumed, floral character — often described as violet-scented — alongside bright red fruit flavours of strawberry and cherry, silky tannins, and a generally lighter, more graceful style than some of its more robust Beaujolais Cru neighbours like Morgon or Moulin-à-Vent. Often nicknamed the 'Queen of Beaujolais,' Fleurie offers a wonderful introduction to what Gamay can achieve when grown on the granite soils of the Beaujolais Crus — wines with real depth and elegance, far removed from simple Beaujolais Nouveau. While approachable young, good examples can also develop attractive, more savoury complexity with a few years of age. Our Fleurie collection offers a chance to explore this beautiful, aromatic style. Fleurie's bright fruit and silky texture make it wonderfully versatile with food, pairing well with charcuterie, roast chicken, and lighter meat dishes, and it's also delicious served with a slight chill.
