Faugeres AOC

Faugères is one of the Languedoc's most respected and distinctive appellations — a compact zone in the Hérault hills producing wines of real concentration, mineral depth and garrigue character from old-vine Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan grown on ancient schist soils that give the wines their unmistakable rocky, mineral signature. Wines Direct has direct relationships with quality-focused independent Faugères producers who represent the appellation at its most authentic and compelling.

Faugères is an appellation in the Languedoc region of southern France, known for producing characterful red and rosé wines (and small amounts of white) from schist soils that give the wines a distinctive minerality and freshness compared to other parts of the warm Languedoc. Faugères reds are typically based on a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, producing wines with ripe dark fruit, herbal garrigue notes, and a structured, sometimes spicy character. The schist soils are often credited with giving Faugères wines a particular finesse and freshness, setting them apart from some of the broader, more rustic wines of the surrounding region. Our Faugères collection offers a chance to explore one of the Languedoc's most distinctive terroir-driven appellations. These wines pair well with grilled and roasted meats, hearty Mediterranean dishes, and aged cheeses.
