Colombard

The offspring of Chenin & Gouais, Colomabrd creates tart, mouth-watering whites. Often blended with Chardonnay or Sauivgnon Blanc, Colombard used to be preferred for brandy-making before being successfully cultivated for lively white wines.

Colombard is a crisp, aromatic white grape variety best known for its role in the wines of Gascony in southwest France, as well as being widely planted in South Africa, California and Australia. Colombard produces light-bodied white wines with vibrant acidity and flavours of citrus, green apple and tropical fruits such as passionfruit and grapefruit. Historically used as a base for Armagnac and Cognac due to its naturally high acidity, Colombard has become increasingly popular as a refreshing varietal white wine in its own right, particularly as consumers seek lighter, zesty styles. It is often blended with Ugni Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc to add freshness and aromatic lift. Colombard is an excellent choice for warm-weather drinking and pairs beautifully with seafood, salads, goat's cheese and light Asian-inspired dishes.
