White wine is made primarily from green or yellow grapes (though some white wines are made from red grapes with the skins removed before fermentation). The world of white wine ranges from bone-dry, mineral Chablis and steely Muscadet to rich, creamy, oak-fermented white Burgundy and full-bodied Alsace Vendange Tardive. In between lies an extraordinary spectrum: the citrus freshness of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, the floral aromatic intensity of Condrieu Viognier, the honeyed complexity of mature Riesling, the texture and depth of aged white Rioja. White wines are the natural partner for seafood, shellfish, fish, lighter meats, vegetables and soft cheeses. At Wines Direct we source white wine from the world's finest producers: Burgundy, Alsace, the Loire, the Rhône, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Southern Hemisphere — always prioritising wines that reflect their origins and reward attention.
