The Brisotto siblings, Chiara, Antonio and Anna are driven by family pride and passion. They are the fifth generation to make wine in their Friulian vineyard, and carry on the work of their mother Livinia, and the generations before her.
Their belief is that wine is not simply made by know-how, but requires passion, sacrifice, patience, sensitivity...and fantasy! This is something that cannot be learned in school, it must be part of your make up, and forms the instinctive, innate ability that characterises the best winemakers. This family pride naturally extends to respect for the land and environment, and there is a strong commitment to ecological practises at San Simone.
Their 'Progetto Verde' (Green Project) initiative extends to all areas of their operation, including the architecturally sensitive design of the winery, water conservation, recycling, and renewable energy. The flora and fauna are protected by allowing grass to grow between the vines, preserving the habitat of many small animals. Today, a new generation is beginning to soak up their passion and philosophy, with the children taking an active part with their parents among the vines.
"This has aged for four years, but grippy tannins remain to underpin the ripe fruit. Bags of personality."
"Dark ripe berries and cherries on the nose and palate with some classic herby cabernet franc character."
"Earthy, damp autumn leaves and a sappy vegetal bouquet. Tasty, liquorice and refreshing sappy flavours. Well-balanced acidity and a red berry finish. Match with lightly pan fried liver and onions with mash."
"The wine comes from a specific area named Sugano, which is a true and proper cru with high density planting and low yield. The vinification happens in steel tanks which allows us to appreciate the herbaceous and spicy notes with recognizable hints of cinnamon and cloves. In the mouth the taste has pleasant soft notes of mature sour cherries and strengthened from the tannic characteristics."
The vineyards are located in the Friuli Grave DOC and Prosecco DOC area in the municipalities of Porcia, Pasiano and Azzano Decimo. We invest significant resources in the vineyards, which make us the promoters in the modern viticulture, targeted on low yield of grapes per hectare, thanks to modern vine training system (Guyot and cordon-spur), the high density planting and low bud density per each vine stump. In addition, rationalizing phytosanitary management, restricting nitrogenous fertilizers and studying the best environmental conditions for vine cultivation are the main factors that have contributed in producing top quality grapes for each variety that our company grows.
