Roc de Cambes Cotes de Bourg AOC Bordeaux 2017
Roc de Cambes Cotes de Bourg AOC Bordeaux 2017
SKU 11279

Elegant and lifted, the 2017 opens with red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and plum skin, laced with cedar, dried rose, and soft spice.
On the palate, it's medium-bodied, graceful and subtly textured. Red fruit leads, supported by fine, feathered tannins and refreshing acidity.
Mitjavile's roasted-coffee note appears in a lighter, more aromatic register, adding warmth without heaviness.
The finish is long, savoury and quietly seductive — a vintage driven by purity, not power.

François Mitjavile is one of Bordeaux's most singular and celebrated figures — the man behind both Tertre Roteboeuf in Saint-Émilion and this estate on the Côtes de Bourg. Self-taught and fiercely independent, he took over his wife's family vineyard in 1978 and set about making wine on his own terms: late hand-harvesting for maximum ripeness, low yields, long skin contact, and a philosophy he sums up as "we are forbidden to create." Named Der Feinschmecker Winemaker of the Year in 2013 and consistently praised by Wine Advocate and Decanter, Mitjavile is widely regarded as one of the defining voices of modern Bordeaux — an artist who proved that extraordinary wine doesn't require a grand classification.

Francois Mitjavile
Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf produces just over 2,000 cases a year from it's tiny 5.7-hectares, which is situated on a steep slope on the edge of a limestone plateau. The grapes are harvested by hand and are fermented in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Le Tertre Rôteboeuf is then aged in oak barrels for 18 months. Yields are kept very low and consequently this is one of the most concentrated wines to be found in Bordeaux. One very important feature of La Tertre Rôteboeuf is that the harvest is very late, giving an almost raisin-like ripeness to the wine. This is because the soil is cold and ideally suited to Merlot. Like all the best winemakers, Francois is prepared to risk rain, and thereby the potential destruction of his crop, to achieve the result he wants. His views are summed up thus: “Let us see, what soil and weather have cooked together this year, and get the best possible out of it. The miracle comes first of all from Mother Nature”.
