Merlot has had an image problem. One film — Paul Giamatti snarling “I am not drinking any Merlot” in Sideways — managed to make the world’s most widely planted red grape feel deeply unfashionable for the best part of a decade. Which is a shame, because great Merlot is absolutely magnificent.

This six-bottle case is our attempt to set the record straight. We’ve brought together some of the finest Merlots and Merlot-dominant blends from across the world: silky, plum-rich examples from Bordeaux, where the grape has been producing world-class wine for centuries; bold, fruit-forward styles from Chile where the warm climate adds extra ripeness; and smooth, gently spiced blends from Italy.
