The 2018 opens with a deep, inviting nose of black cherry, ripe plum, blueberry compote, sweet tobacco, and that subtle roasted-coffee warmth that instantly marks it as Mitjavile. There’s a savoury edge underneath — graphite, damp earth, a whisper of clove — that gives the aromatics real depth.

On the palate it’s surprisingly opulent for a humble Bordeaux AOC. Silky, layered fruit rolls across the tongue — cassis, red plum, blackberry — all wrapped in velvety tannins and balanced by a fresh, lifted acidity that keeps the wine alive. The mid-palate is generous but never heavy, showing cocoa, spice, and a gentle smoky sweetness.

The finish is long, warming, and quietly confident — far more “Right Bank grand vin” than “entry-level Bordeaux.”
