Semillon is a versatile white grape variety best known for its starring role in two very different styles of wine: the lush, honeyed dessert wines of Sauternes in Bordeaux, and the bone-dry, age-worthy whites of Australia's Hunter Valley. In Bordeaux, Semillon is often blended with Sauvignon Blanc to add body, texture, and richness, while in Hunter Valley it's typically bottled on its own, producing wines that start lean and citrusy when young and develop remarkable toasty, honeyed complexity with age.
Our Semillon collection showcases this range, from crisp, fresh dry whites with notes of lemon, green apple, and lanolin, to richer, barrel-aged styles with waxy, honeyed depth. Semillon's naturally high sugar levels and thin skin also make it especially prone to noble rot (botrytis), the key to producing world-famous sweet wines.
Dry Semillon is a fantastic match for shellfish, grilled fish, and creamy sauces, while sweeter styles pair beautifully with blue cheese, foie gras, and fruit-based desserts. Explore our range to discover this underrated grape's surprising versatility.
