Gavi di Gavi DOCG is one of Italy's most prestigious white wine appellations, located in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy and made exclusively from the Cortese grape variety. The designation 'di Gavi' refers to wines produced from vineyards immediately surrounding the town of Gavi itself, considered the heartland of the appellation and often associated with the highest quality. Gavi di Gavi DOCG wines are light-bodied, crisp and dry, with flavours of lemon, green apple and white flowers, typically finishing with a subtle almond note characteristic of Cortese. Traditionally made in an unoaked style to preserve freshness, Gavi has earned comparisons to fine white Burgundy for its elegance, minerality and food-pairing versatility. Some producers also experiment with extended lees ageing or oak to add texture and complexity. Gavi di Gavi pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, risotto and Ligurian and Piedmontese cuisine.
