Alvarinho

Alvarinho, known as Albarino in neighbouring Spain, is one of Iberia's most prized white grape varieties, producing aromatic, food-friendly wines along the coastal regions of northern Portugal and Galicia. In Portugal's Vinho Verde region, particularly the Moncao e Melgaco subregion, Alvarinho produces wines with vibrant citrus, peach and tropical fruit flavours, balanced by zesty acidity and a distinctive saline, mineral edge that reflects its proximity to the Atlantic. Often bottled as a single varietal, Alvarinho tends to be more structured and full-bodied than typical Vinho Verde blends, with the texture and ageing potential to rival some of Spain's best Albarino wines from Rias Baixas.
