Trincadeira

Trincadeira is a red grape variety widely planted across Portugal, particularly in the Alentejo and Douro regions, where it contributes colour, aroma and structure to many red blends. Trincadeira produces wines with vibrant red and black fruit flavours such as raspberry, blackberry and plum, often accompanied by herbal, peppery and floral notes. While the grape can be prone to uneven ripening and rot in damp conditions, in warmer regions like the Alentejo it reaches full ripeness and produces concentrated, well-structured wines with good ageing potential. Trincadeira is rarely bottled as a single varietal but plays a key supporting role in many of Portugal's most celebrated red blends, adding aromatic lift and freshness alongside grapes like Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet.
