Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella
Vineyards situated mid-slope, southeast exposition and using pergola planting to avoid cooking the grapes in the hot summers. The use of natural yeast and native woods like chestnut, cherry and mulberry is all part of the individuality of Pier Paulo Antolini's wines. His Ripasso is elegant and not overpowered with oak. Olives, and willow for supporting the vines, are grown on the estate.
1x Mas Las Cabes 2018 – Côtes du Roussillon AOC (Organic, Vegan)
Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre
Hand-harvested, with natural yeast and some biodynamic treatments following the terroir-driven approach. A first for Domaine Gardiés. Ageing for eight months, one third in the barrel and two thirds in concrete, allows for development but not overpowering of the exceptional fruit. Sulphites 40mg/l so in essence a 'natural wine'.
1x Crios de Susana Balbo 2018/19 - Mendoza (Organic methods, Vegan)
Susana Balbo talks about 'being brave'—graduating as the first female enologist in Argentina in 1981, then going out to the world with her Malbec, before it was internationally known, and becoming a part of the worldwide success story that is Argentinian Malbec. Grown at over 1100 metres above sea level, hand-harvested, a long maceration period before ageing in French oak for nine months, gives awine full of fresh fruit, designed for easy drinking across generations and food styles.
1x Château les Armes de Brandeau 2018 - Castillion-Côtes de Bordeaux AOC (Organic methods)
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
A small family vineyard run by winemaker Nathalie Lauret who also works at Château Haut Segottes. The wine is full of mature fruit and spice with a long finish ending in cassis. It punches above its weight in both delivery and price.
1x Finca Mas d’en Gil ‘Coma Vella’ 2014 - Priorat DOCQ
Garnatxa, Carignan, Syrah
From old vines: Hairy Grenache, Carignan and a touch of Syrah. Marta Rovira said, "I make wine for my grandmother." Priorat proves that elegance is a priority here. The Coma Valley faces east to west capturing the sun, and the Garbinada breeze regulates the vineyard temperature. Hand-harvested and fermented using natural yeast in large oak barrels and aged for two years in a mixture of 3,000, 1,500, and 225 litres barrels, before another 24 months in bottle. This is an intense and fresh wine with a silky texture that reflects the unique terroir of Coma Vella.
1x Kamara ‘Pure Nimbus’ 2017 - Thessaloniki PGI (Organic certification, Vegan)
Xinomavro, Merlot, Syrah
Xinomavro or black sour is a big grape with characteristics of the Nebbiolo variety. Dimitrios, after studying at the University of California Davis could see the potential of softening this powerful grape with Syrah and Merlot. Both Syrah and Merlot are vinified together, with Xinomavro being fermented by itself. Blended after ferment and aged in oak barrels for 12 months, leaving us with a big intense ruby wine, with flavours of blackberries, plum, cracked black pepper and a hint of spearmint.
