Collection: Silvano Bolmida
Silvano Bolmida is one of the new breed in Monforte. Now almost forty years old, he worked for ten years as an enologist for another winery in Barolo before taking over the business founded by his father and mother, and now seeks to improve on what was already a standard.
The estate is relatively small and production was never big to begin with. One major decision by Silvano Bolmida was to drastically reduce yields by performing a green harvest in June, and to use organic winegrowing practices in the vineyards, without the need for pesticides or chemical fertilizers. At harvest time the grapes are given a fairly long skin contact, and then are aged in cask (tonneaux) or in barriques, on the lees, for over a year prior to bottling.
