Weissburgunder — Pinot Blanc — is one of Germany's great unsung whites, and Weingut Bender in the warm Pfalz produces a beautiful example. Often overlooked in favour of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc at its best offers a similar creamy, textured quality with a distinctly German mineral freshness and elegance.

This wine shows ripe pear, white peach, and almond on the nose, with a broad, softly textured palate and a clean, refreshing finish. It's a wonderfully versatile food wine — try it with roast pork, creamy fish dishes, mild cheeses, or white asparagus with hollandaise.

Andreas Bender

Andreas grew up roaming the vineyards of the Mosel wherehis family were grafting vines. It is no surprise he beganmaking wine when he was 13! His wine experiences include time in the U.S., France, Italy and at Geisenheim University as a scholar inoenology and viticulture. Today he manages 35 hectares of his own vineyards. His grapes are picked and hand-sorted, to ensure the highest quality of juice. The unconventional use of retired oak barrels can be a bit hit ormiss, but for Andreas, it has been a hit. Andreas'contemporary attitude comes through in the Bender labeldesign and accessible, fun wines. He takes Pfalz andMosel's traditional grapes, cool climate, and slate soils and uses them to create impeccably balanced wines.
