South West France is a vast and varied wine region stretching inland from Bordeaux towards the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, encompassing a patchwork of small appellations and indigenous grape varieties found nowhere else in the world. Often overshadowed by its famous neighbour Bordeaux, the South West offers some of France's most distinctive and excellent-value wines. The region is home to grapes like Tannat, the backbone of the deeply coloured, tannic reds of Madiran; Malbec, which has its spiritual home in Cahors (often called 'Black Wine' for its intense colour); and Gros and Petit Manseng, which produce both dry and lusciously sweet whites in appellations like Jurançon and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh. Négrette is another local speciality, giving the wines of Fronton their distinctive violet and red berry character. Our South West France collection offers an opportunity to explore these lesser-known but hugely rewarding wines. Expect bold, characterful reds that pair well with the region's famous duck and cassoulet dishes, alongside aromatic whites suited to seafood and richer fare.
