Nero di Troia

Puglia's hidden secret! Used interchangeably with Uve di Troia, Nero di Troia frequently gets forgotten about when we think of the other, dominant, Puglian wines, Negroamaro & Primitivo.Nero di Troia is best enjoyed with some age and will improve with up to 10 years. Aromas of violets, red and black fruits with notes of vanilla, star anise, herbs and spice are key features of this glorious Italian red.

Nero di Troia is a robust red grape variety native to Puglia in southern Italy, particularly associated with the Castel del Monte DOC area. Producing deeply coloured wines with firm tannins and good acidity, Nero di Troia offers flavours of dark plum, blackberry and black cherry, often layered with notes of leather, tobacco and dried herbs as the wine develops. While it can be enjoyed young in a fruit-forward style, Nero di Troia also has the structure and tannin to benefit from oak ageing, producing more complex, age-worthy wines. Its rustic, full-bodied character reflects the warm Mediterranean climate of Puglia and makes it a natural match for the region's hearty, meat-focused cuisine. Nero di Troia pairs beautifully with grilled and roasted meats, rich pasta dishes, aged cheeses and tomato-based sauces. At Wines Direct, we offer a selection of Nero di Troia wines from Puglia.
