A diverse wine region located in eastern Austria, is known red wines, particularly those made from the Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt grapes. Burgenland is such a diverse that wine makers like Wellanschit and Kolfok perfeer to put thier village of Mittenburg in steand of the more catch all DAC of Burgenland. Mittenburg maked perfumed light bodied but spicy wines grown on Schist rock. Wines that can compete with Barolo or Pinot Noir.
