Andalusia

Andalusia is southern Spain's most historic wine region — a sun-drenched landscape with winemaking roots stretching back to Phoenician and Roman times, famous above all for Sherry, whose unique fortified styles range from bone-dry Fino to lusciously sweet Pedro Ximénez. Wines Direct sources Andalusian wines from quality-focused independent producers who demonstrate the chalky albariza soils and distinctive character that make this region unlike anywhere else in the wine world.

Andalusia, in southern Spain, is one of the country's most historically significant wine regions, best known as the home of Sherry, produced around the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa Maria, collectively known as the Sherry Triangle. Made primarily from the Palomino grape and aged using the unique solera system, Sherry ranges from the bone-dry, tangy Fino and Manzanilla styles to the richer, nuttier Amontillado, Oloroso and intensely sweet Pedro Ximenez styles. Beyond Sherry, Andalusia also produces other wines, including sweet Moscatel and dry table wines from various coastal and inland areas. The region's hot climate and unique ageing traditions make Andalusian wines unlike anything else in the world, offering remarkable diversity from a single corner of Spain. Andalusian wines pair wonderfully with tapas, cured meats, olives, almonds, seafood and, in the case of Pedro Ximenez, desserts. At Wines Direct, we offer a selection of wines from Andalusia.
