Wines Direct was founded in 1991 with a simple but ambitious idea: go directly to the source. While most wine merchants were content to pick from distributors’ catalogues, our founders set off on a different path — travelling to vineyards across France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and beyond, building relationships with the independent winemakers who were producing some of the world’s most exciting wines. More than three decades later, that founding spirit still drives everything we do.

We are a family-run Irish business, and proud of it. Every bottle in our range has been personally selected by our team — not because it’s a famous label or a safe bestseller, but because it genuinely moved us. We taste with our hearts as much as our palates. We look for wines with a sense of place, a story behind them, and a winemaker who cares deeply about the land they work. You’ll find no corporate producers or big-brand names here — just authentic, terroir-driven wines from people who farm with passion and integrity.

Our relationships with producers are at the heart of what makes Wines Direct different. Many of our winemakers have been supplying us for twenty years or more. We visit them regularly — walking their vineyards, sharing their tables, understanding their philosophy. These aren’t transactions; they’re friendships built on mutual respect and a shared love of great wine. That closeness means we can offer you wines that are rarely available elsewhere in Ireland, at prices that reflect genuine value rather than marketing budgets.

From the limestone soils of Chablis to the sun-baked hillsides of Priorat, from the ancient volcanic terraces of the Canary Islands to the river valleys of the Douro — our range spans the globe, united by one thing: authenticity. We’re just as passionate about a juicy natural wine from a young Languedoc vigneron as we are about a classic grand cru from Burgundy. What matters to us is that the wine is honest, alive, and made with care.
