Collection: Chateau Maucoil
A Roman settlement was established on the site of Chateau Maucoil in the first century BC, after the discovery of a natural spring there. This spring still flows, and is known as 'La Source de Chateau Maucoil'. Vineyards were planted on the property as far back as the 17th century. A text on the history of the Dutch princes of Orange, who owned the property in the 1600's, is preserved in a glass case here and is the inspiration for the Chateau Maucoil labels.
The Arnaud family became the owner of Chateau Maucoil in 1995 and focused on improving the quality since then. Since 2011, Benedicte has begun the conversion to organic viticulture. They always use sustainable vineyard practices and they never use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The winemaking focus is on finesse and good, ripe fruit.
All grapes are hand-harvested, triple selected to ensure only those in perfect condition make it into the wine. Fermentation temperatures are controlled to preserve the freshness and brightness of the fruit, and the wines are aged in a combination of new and old oak, again allowing the fruit to dominate.
