Based at: Wines Direct HQ, 1 Magazine Road, Athlone, Co Westmeath

Wines Direct is an independent wine company passionate about connecting people with exceptional wines from small, family-run vineyards. We believe in creating an engaging and welcoming experience for our customers, making wine discovery fun, accessible, and rewarding.

The Role

We have both a full-time and part-time position available.

The part-time position is a minimum of 23 hours. Please do not apply if you cannot work 23 hours.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Retail & Events Associate to join our Athlone store. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves wine, enjoys engaging with people, and wants to bring fresh ideas to drive footfall and in-store events. You will be the face of Wines Direct in Athlone, creating an inviting space for customers while planning and promoting activities that bring the community into the store.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Sales

• Welcome and assist customers, helping them discover wines they’ll love.
• Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with regular shoppers.
• Ensure the store is well-presented, stocked, and inviting.

Events & Footfall Growth

• Plan and promote in-store tastings and special events to attract new customers.
• Work with the team to come up with fresh, creative event ideas.
• Connect with local businesses and groups to bring new visitors into the store.
• Assist in marketing and social media efforts to promote in-store activities.

Supporting Store Performance

• Help drive footfall and sales through engaging promotions and campaigns.
• Gather customer feedback to improve events and store experience.
• Work closely with the team to ensure events and store activities run smoothly.

What We’re Looking For

• A passion for wine and an interest in learning more (WSET qualification is a bonus but not required).
• A friendly, approachable personality with strong people skills.
• Previous experience in retail, hospitality, or events is a plus but not essential.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative.
• A creative mindset with an interest in community engagement and event planning.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when needed.
