Wines Direct has revolutionised the Irish wine industry. Paddy Keogh steered consumers and restaurants to focus more on quality and value. He would walk the lands with the winemakers and worked on a plan to get the wines back to Irish soil without involving a middleman. Wines directly from the vineyards to your glass.
Wines Direct lost Paddy in 2014, but his legacy lives on in his sons Gareth and Gavin who have brought the company to where it is today. They are leaders and innovators in the wine industry. There isn’t a list as thoughtfully curated as Gareth’s or a company as on-the-pulse as Gavin has Wines Direct.
Wines Direct Athlone is our second store in the Midlands. We’ve worked with a variety of Athlone restaurants over the years, and we know that there is a thirst and excitement for delicious wines. For us, it was a no brainer to bring our retail offering to such a dynamic town.
This project was led by Director of Retail, Trevor Fisher, and he has put together a team of wine lovers, ready to get their chats on with Athlone and all who visit! Store Manager is Limerick man, Ian O’Connor, who joined the Wines Direct team in 2022.
At Wines Direct we like to take the mystery away from wine – we want to share it with everyone! Even the most cautious of wine drinkers will find something to love. We are hardwired to share, and we’re so looking forward to sharing our knowledge and stories with Athlone. We’ll have wines open for tasting weekly and hopefully we’ll get to monthly tasting events – which are mildly educational, but mostly just good fun - before Summer is out.
