Nancelle Macon Villages
Nancelle Macon Villages
The older residents of Chardonnay will tell you that their village gave the name to the grape that now dominates Burgundy. All we know is that the name comes from the latin “cardus” which means a sharp plant or thistle that thrives in limestone soil and is found on this one-hectare site — 350 metres above sea level. Hand-harvested with spontaneous fermentation in old barrels and ageing for 11 months, leading to a beautiful, expressive bouquet, rich and balanced. Full of joie de vivre.

Here on the outskirts of the Mâcon Villages lies the estate of Château de Nancelle. Established in 1985 and grown on the site of a historic castle, the Corsin family have been producing wonderful Mâcon whites over the past few years. It’s a tight knit family affair at this small, rural winery with husband and wife Patrick and Nathalie joined by their son, Pierre. Like all of our best winemakers, their ideology is minimal interference in the winemaking process letting the beautiful and dramatic terrains of this part of Burgundy come shining through their wines. They use natural yeasts only and practice viticulture raisonée which means they adopt environmentally sustainable techniques on the land.
