Food Pairing
From the Barreau family’s 6th generation estate in Entre-Deux-Mers. The little known Semillon variety makes up this rich, dry Bordeaux white wine. The 100% Semillon is fermented in stainless steel tanks and is temperature-controlled to protect the natural aromas from oxidation — ageing on fine lees for three weeks. The Barreau family is committed to biodiversity. All this leads to a wine that is bright and full of citrus and grapefruit, developing into zingy lemon curd and a very long finish. For six generations the Barreau family has resided in the commune of Grezillac. To this day they continue their tradition of winemaking and own both Château Haut-Garrigaand Château Coitreau. The vineyards are located on the highest slopes overlooking Saint-Émilion.
Château Haut Garriga is unusual in being 100% Semillon, the typical Bordeaux blanc being a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Mary Dowey was so taken with this wine that she commented 'I don't think I have ever come across a white Bordeaux that offers better value'. Anyone looking for an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, while not straying too far off the mark, will be well rewarded with this 'immediately likeable' wine from Entre-Deux-Mers.
"A wonderful fresh, crisp, dry white, made entirely from Semillon (and therefore Sauvignon-free) with zesty lemon, green apple and melon fruits, finishing bone dry. It is low in alcohol and would make a perfect partner for seafood or as a mouthwatering aperitif."
"I don't believe I have ever come across a white Bordeaux that offers better value than this immediately likeable, exuberantly fruity number. Interestingly, it's 100 per cent Semillon."
"From the Barreau family’s 6th generation estate in Entre-Deux-Mers this 100% Sémillon feels complex and well made with a good amount of juicy fruit and lift. It has rounded flavours of tropical pineapple and grapefruit alongside crunchy apple and citrus with a zesty lift at the end keeping things fresh and lively."
