Domaine de la Pirolette
Food Pairing
Saint-Amour is one of the most exciting and diverse Beaujolais Cru with pink granite in Fleurie and blue volcanic soil in Côte du Py. Spontaneous fermentation using the Chapeau method, then nine months on lees in a combination of egg amphorae and stainless steel tanks. Leading to dark ruby colour with intense perfumed dark berry, cherry liqueur and liquorice scents and a lengthy finish.

"To respect and to reveal the diversity of our terroirs to produce a complex wine that will procure emotion." Grégory Barbet
In 2013, Grégory Barbet was looking for a house in Beaujolais. Grégory's father helped with the search and called him one day, saying that had found a beautiful home in Saint-Amour. There was a catch: the house included a winery that was originally founded in the 1600s with 15 hectares of vines. Although a bit intimidated he dove right in with his wife Virgine and now creates remarkable wine that reveals all the terroir has to offer. 2013 was the first harvest since the estate was taken over. This is a story of people who love wine, hence the estate's nickname: "the passionate bunch".
Saint-Amour has some of the most diverse terroir of all of the Cru Beaujolais. The plots at the top of the hill produce elegant wines full of freshness, energy and mineral edge while the vines that grow on the Piedmont plains are more peppery and spicy. In the traditional winery with its concrete vats, the grapes are macerated whole or destemmed, depending of the particularity of the parcels.
