Lords and ladies, brothers and warriors — Wine is coming!
Game of Rhônes is the celebration of the great grape varieties of the Rhône Valley. The Rhône Valley has a reputation that precedes itself. It has been a hub of wine culture since Roman times and has earned an international standing for rigorous production that yields outstanding wines.
The north and south of the Rhône may be in the same valley but are different worlds. The continental climate in the north and Mediterranean climate in the south differentiates one from the other with the grapes from each defining their characters. The north concentrates on growing Syrah, and in the south the quintet of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, and Mourvèdre prosper in the valley’s heat. From Hermitage in the north to Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the south, the Rhône Valley equals prestige.
1x Maison Plantevin - Côtes du Rhône AOC
Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre
Hand harvested and 100% destemmed, pressed, and fermented with natural yeast. Short maceration of 1 to 2 weeks. The light pressed wine is added to obtain the body structure. Luscious aromas of cassis, ripe red fruits, blueberry, and prune. Touch of liquorice and mixed spices.
1x Domaine Charavin ‘Lou Paris' - Côtes du Rhône AOC
Cinsault, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah
Destemmed and fermented with natural yeast over three weeks in stainless steel. Resting in vat for 12 months before bottling, leading to a bouquet of red fruit, aromas from the Syrah (25%), powerful red fruits and blackberries with good spice.
1x Domaine Charavin - Rasteau AOP
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
The lighter colour of Domaine Charavin Rasteau belies the complexity in the glass. There is a simple spicy red fruit nose, but the palate is far more intriguing and shows dry red fruit flavours with earthy meaty edges, lots to get your teeth into yet well-balanced.
1x Château Saint Estève Grand Réserve - Côtes du Rhône d’Uchaux AOC
Hand-harvested, and fermented in underground concrete vats, resting for 18 months. Vibrant, dark red with an alert bouquet of red cherries and raspberry and a spicy, smoky aertaste. Very drinkable, from the Massif d’Uchaux. Almost Burgundian in elegance.
1x Domaine des Remizières - Crozes-Hermitage AOC
One of the true family-run domaines in Hermitage. Hand-harvested from gobelet or bush vines. Natural yeast and ferment and aged 15 months élevage in 600-litre oak barrels. It’s a medium-bodied, fruit-forward example of Syrah, marked by bright cherries and peppery spice. Fresh and crunchy in style. An easy qua, with some tarry and black olive notes on the finish.
1x La Crau de Ma Mère - Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC
Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah
A wine created from a selection of very old vines including some 154-year-old Grenache vines located at Crau. Organic and biodynamically grown. The winery uses gravity and ferments in large concrete vats with natural yeast. Maceration is for 20-30 days, and each variety is vinified separately. Eighteen months in tank before assembling amplifies richness on the palate. Ripe black cherry, fig and mulberry are lavish and spicy — an opulent but elegantly integrated wine edged by fine tannins.
