Domaine Huber-Verderau

Thiebault Huber is a young and as-yet uncelebrated producer, according to Jancis Robinson. Grapes are fully destemmed and fermented in concrete vats from vines in alluvial clay. Very open nose with black fruit and cherry, with the perfect balance of beauty and power.

Thiébault Huber

“A promising but little-known producer of Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. It’s not often we recommend a producer rather than a specific wine in our wine of the
week slot, but I would like to draw your attention to this under-the-radar producer.” Jancis Robison

Domaine Huber-Verdereau was founded by Thiébault Huber in 1994 but originated in the 19th century when his grandfather Raoul Verdereau began to grow wine on the estate in Volnay.

Thiébault Huber studied all about the hotel business and the art of being a sommelier at the famous Hotel Catering School in Strasbourg. In 1990, he chose to take over the family estate, training three years at the Wine School of Beaune, with his cousin, winegrower Jean-Marc Bouley.
His first harvest was in 1994. Beginning with 2.9 hectares, and looking to expand his land and range of appellations, Domaine Huber-Verdereau now owns four hectares of vines in three parishes: Volnay, Pommard, and Meursault.

Since 2001, Thiébault has practised biodynamics. He has implemented a pest control programme, using only compost on his vines and tilling as the sole method of
soil maintenance and is certified biodynamic by Demeter.

For Thiébault, it is all about minimal intervention. The result is a wine with finesse and elegance and pure expression of his superior terroirs.
