Domaine Gardiés ‘On S'en Fish!’
Indirectly translated “We don’t care” a tongue and cheek play on words for a playful wine. This is a light red from Roussillon, from a very short maceration on skins. Light, bright and ruby in colour its full of summer fun, with light fresh tannins and a fresh finish. This is a perfect red to try chilled and is made to complement fish.
Mas Las Cabes is the name adopted by Domaine Gardiés to mark its conversion to Organic farming and their certification as “Vin Biologique”.
The vineyard is located near the village of Espira de l'Agly in the Roussillon region. A stone’s throw from the Pyrenees and the Spanish border, the vineyards of Mas Las Cabes are planted on soils composed of black marl and friable schist. This gives the wines a distinct mineral character.
The estate was purchased by the Gardiés family in 1990, and Jean Gardiés has been in charge of the operation ever since. Jean pays close attention to the unique aspects of his vineyard. He plants red grape varieties on south and east facing slopes and cultivates white varietals at higher altitudes on north facing slopes. In order to get the best expression of this region from his wines, Jean concentrates on Mediterranean grape varieties (Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Macabeu, Muscat and Vermentino).
Both the red and white Mas Las Cabes are structured, concentrated, yet elegant. They exhibit the best of what Roussillon wines can offer.
