Jacky, as a wine merchant, became so frustrated at the incompetence of the small growers on the Loire, he got into wine making himself. I have been tasting and admiring the wine of Jacky Blot for some years. His move into winemaking has some resonance for Wines Direct. Jacky had, as a wine merchant, become so frustrated at the incompetence of the small growers in the Loire he got into winemaking himself. Self taught, he now has over 15 Hectares and prefers to work alone.
Production levels are low, fermentation is in wood and there is an extreme sorting regime to ensure quality of fruit. Jacky has never used chaptilisation (the addition of sugar). The Chenin Blanc produced by Jacky Blot has a quality and expression that is difficult to find and worth every euro. It is born out of his obsession to reap the best out of his terroir.

All the vineyards, whether the vines are in the appellation Montlouis-sur-Loire or in the Vouvray appellation, rests on a limestone bedrock. This deposit of the Upper Turonian from the late Cretaceous era to the end of the secondary era dates from about 100 million years ago and forms a sloping plateau to the south at Montlouis-sur-Loire.
