Domaine Clavel Le Mas.
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre
Domaine Clavel is run by Pierre Clavel. His father, Jean Clavel, was once director of the Syndicat des Coteaux du Languedoc, responsible for the creation of the Coteaux du Languedoc AOC, and consequently an influential figure in the region. Despite this the family owned no vineyards until Pierre established himself at what was called Mas Calage, but is now Domaine Clavel.
At that time he was young guy ready to accept the work and responsibilities of an empty field, rare enough at a time when the wines of the Coteaux du Languedoc and the South in general, were not well regarded by the French connoisseurs, not to mention the export markets.
Before becoming a winemaker, Pierre worked at a variety of jobs, including tending sheep in the hills close to where he now makes wine. A bit of a hippy at heart, we can reap the benefits of his proletarian ideology, as he is determined that his excellent wine will be affordable for all.
"One of Paddy's early discoveries, it's a soft and round blend of Grenache and Syrah with a herby whiff of the garrigue. A considerable amount of taste and rather timely just now as it has autumnal character with a touch of bramble jelly on the palate. A wine for grilled meat or the better class of barbecue."
"A hugely satisfying wine with rich red cherry fruits, spicy black peppers and nice grip on finish. With lamb or beef dishes."
Domaine Pierre Clavel
Our vineyard extends over 27 hectares in the Languedoc appellation area, and offers three terroirs with strong identities: Terroir de La Méjanelle, Terroir Pic Saint Loup and some young vines in Assas in the Grés area of ??Montpellier.
