Domaine Charavin Rasteau
Carignan. Mourvedre, Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah
Rhone Valley, France
Didier Charavin is proving to be one of the stalwarts of this region. He produces a wonderful classical wine that is textbook for the region. His wife appears to be the powerhouse of the couple, dealing with the business side, which is very common in French viticulture. Didier, on the other hand, concentrates on the job at hand and devotes himself to his vines and wines.
Ambitious is a word regularly used to describe Didier, and this shows in his decision to make his own wine after taking over the reins from his father in 1985. He has since built a solid reputation for well-made, powerful and Chateauneuf-du-Pape like wines for a fraction of the price.

"Powerful, foursquare ripe forest fruits with plenty of chewy tannins. One to savour with robust red meat dishes."

The fruit from this 50ha estate used to go to the local co-op, but Didier Charavin struck out on his own in the 1980's and his wines have become legendary among those who put taste above label. Powerful, supple and complex - this is half the price of many a wine with a posher AOC and less flair."

Many complementary grape varieties ( Cinsault , Carignan , Counoise , Muscardin , Vaccarèse , Terret , etc.) can respond to local soil and climate problems, En savoir plus : http://avis-vin.lefigaro.fr/connaitre-deguster/tout-savoir-sur-le-vin/guide-des-regions-et-des-appellations/vallee-du-rhone/appellation-cotes-du-rhone#ixzz4v1d5diAp
