Domaine des Remizières
Crozes-Hermitage AOC , Rhone Valley, France
From one of the true family-run domaines in Crozes-Hermitage, this superb red will be enjoyable in its youth and keep very well for a few years. A medium-bodied, fruit-forward example of Syrah, marked by bright cherries and peppery spice. Fresh and crunchy in style. An easy quaff, with some tarry and black olive notes on the finish.
Hand-harvested from gobelet or bush vines. Natural yeast and ferment and aged 15 months élevage in 600-litre oak barrels.

Philippe Desmeure is the third generation of his family to operate the property, but 1996 was the first vintage he controlled. The estate owns vineyards in Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage ranging in age from 20 to over 60 years of age.
Philippe knows how to make the most out of his terroir, and his well-equipped cellar. In minimising the skin contact, controlling the temperature during the fermentation and then leaving the wine in oak for 6-8 months before bottling, Philippe achieves a typical Crozes-Hermitage, which is aromatic, supple and full of characteristic Syrah with smoky hints.
The Wine Advocate’s Robert Parker declared Philippe Desmeures to be one of his Wine Personalities of the Year. "Desmeures has become one of the superstars of Hermitage in less than three or four years. Lower yields, riper fruit and wines fashioned in the most unmanipulated and natural way as possible has allowed him to exploit some great terroirs. His wines are among the finest of Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage."
"Syrah from the northern Rhône means wonderfully deep, almost black colour, black pepper and burnt rubber on the nose with spice. The fruit is supple and concentrated."
"Medium to full bodied. Ripe and juicy with no hard edges...long and vigorous. Plenty to enjoy here."
