Mark Lloyd, the great Australian winemaker, produces his wines to reflect his strong social consious - as environmentally efficient as possible, with nothing lost in the taste. The nose shows redcurrant, cherry, dark chocolate and earthiness. Hints of licorice and spice lead into a medium bodied, juicy palate that showcases the blend of Shiraz and Sangiovese within this red wine.

A beautiful coastal drive from Adelaide to McLaren vale will lead you to the postcard-perfect Coriole estate. The wonderful welcome we received from Mark at his boutique cellar door made us fall in love with this organic family winery immediately. The region's deep red soils produce richly coloured and textured red wines.
Behind the scenes at McLaren Vale’s picturesque Coriole Vineyard it’s definitely a family affair - with winemaker Mark Lloyd currently at the helm of this successful and increasingly diverse operation. While Coriole has a rich history dating back to around 1860, when the property’s old house and barn was first constructed, the Lloyd family didn’t acquire the land until 1968. They released the first vintage under the Coriole label two years later.
Some of the Shiraz vines in use today date back to 1919. The maxim which determines the Coriole approach to winemaking is that 'good wine is made in the vineyard'. The region's deep red soils produce richly coloured and textured red wines. While some wines are aged in new oak, the Redstone and Sangiovese are aged in older oak, giving a wide range of styles. Organic practices have been adopted at Coriole , and they plan to expand the organic production over the next few years.
Creativity runs in the Lloyd family, and Mark's sister is a highly regarded cheesemaker. if you're lucky enough to visit sometime, you can enjoy the family's produce in the restaurant at the vineyard, for which they grow all the vegetables on the property. Try to make it in time for the music festival held every May in the accoustically superb barrel room.

The soils are predominantly terra rosa soils (over 80%). These soils are shallow with red-brown earth over hard capped limestone. They tend to produce deeply coloured red wines with good structure and backbone that show great capacity for ageing
